Channatip Chanvipava's practice sits at the intersection of personal memory and cultural displacement. Born in Bangkok, self-taught, now based in London, he paints from the space between worlds — the moment when two languages, two cultures, two ways of understanding family stop translating into each other. His work doesn't resolve that tension. It lives in it.

The Show

This is his first Vienna solo exhibition. The paintings are densely layered, autobiographical without being confessional. They carry the weight of stories that can't quite be told in any single language. There's a specificity here — not the generic "immigrant experience" but the precise, particular experience of growing up between cultures, of words that mean something different depending on who's speaking.

The venue matters. BEK Forum is not a commercial gallery. It's a production platform for experimental art and performance — a real workspace, not a white-cube shop. The courtyard location in the 4th is deliberately unmarked. You have to know it exists. That's the point. This is work for people who are actually looking, not browsing.
