Vinyl & Music Summer Nights is the festival's summer edition: evening-focused, relaxed, the kind of event that pulls you back to the same place year after year. This year it returns to the Ottakringer Brauerei, one of Vienna's most characterful event spaces — a working industrial brewery that has been in the same family since 1837.

The courtyard is the draw. It holds a crowd without feeling like a festival. You can actually move between the record stalls, find a corner with a friend, stay for two hours or five. That's the difference between a venue and a festival venue.

What to Expect

Records to dig through — the kind of market where you'll find something you didn't know you wanted. The sound is Italo: Zucchero, Gianna Nannini, Måneskin, the kind of music that makes August feel like it's happening somewhere else. The brewery handles the drinks — including their new Bier Spritz, beer and sparkling wine, which is exactly the drink this evening calls for. Food is there too.

Tom Sattler, a Rolling Stones collector and expert, will have exclusive special editions of the new Stones album Foreign Tongues in stock. If you're into that, it's worth knowing.

Why the Brewery

Ottakringer is a working brewery, not a converted warehouse. The building is industrial in the way that matters — it has a pace and a weight to it. The 16th district is not the obvious choice for a summer evening out, which is part of why it works. The courtyard feels like a place that belongs to itself, not to the city's circuit of venues.

The Vinyl & Music festival runs throughout the year, but the Summer Nights format is the one that stays with you. It's the evening you keep coming back to in August.
