Wieninger's Buschenschank sits on the Nussberg with a proper vineyard terrace — the vines you're drinking from grow directly below. The Wieninger family has been making wine on the Nussberg since the 1970s and is one of the most respected names in Viennese wine. This is not a tourist Heuriger. It's a working vineyard that happens to have the best view in Vienna.
The View
The terrace is angled so that on a clear day the horizon looks like a sea. The whole city spreads out below — the Stephansdom, the Danube, the districts stacking back toward the hills. You're sitting on a vineyard terrace 500 metres above the city floor, drinking wine made from the vines directly behind you.
The Wine
Wieninger produces Gemischter Satz and other Viennese varieties. The wine list is short and the prices are Heuriger prices: €5–6 a glass. The food is what you'd expect — bread, cheese, cold cuts, sometimes a warm dish. The point is the wine and the view. Everything else is architecture.
When to Go
The Buschenschank opens from April 2026: Friday and Saturday from midday, Sundays and holidays from 11. The schedule expands to more days as summer progresses — check wieninger-am-nussberg.at for the current opening days. Reservation recommended, especially on weekends and clear-sky days when the Meeresterrasse is at its best.

The 17th urbanize! festival transforms Vienna's streets into the main subject of inquiry. Oct 13–18 across multiple neighborhoods: talks, workshops, city walks, films, and artistic interventions exploring climate adaptation, mobility, social justice, and public space. The opening event on Oct 13 at Caritas Kirchenschiff features the Community Sprechchor from the Burgtheater, a talk on streets as urban space by Stefan Bendiks, and food and drinks from Küchenschiff. Free entry; some formats require registration. This is genuinely local work — not a festival for tourists, but a six-day conversation about how streets function as gathering space and what reclaiming them means.

The Sophienpark opens to the public on June 12 — the courtyard garden of the former Sophienspital on Apollogasse in the 7th. The Sophienspital was Vienna's main women's hospital for over a century; the complex has been slowly repurposed since its closure. The park is free and accessible on its own, though it pairs with the sophie7 restaurant in the Kenyonpavillon if you want to eat. A historic hospital garden that has been closed to the public for decades, now open. The kind of discovery that only works in Vienna, where history is always just behind a door. Open June 12–October 31.

Heuriger Sirbu sits on the Nussberg in the 19th, with its own vineyard and two open terraces looking out over Vienna and the Kahlenberg. This is the kind of place where you order a Gemischter Satz at four in the afternoon and look up two hours later wondering where the time went. The Nussberg itself is steeper and quieter than Grinzing or Heiligenstadt — fewer tourists, a longer walk, a better view. Sirbu opens Friday from 16h, Saturday and Sunday from noon. The real season here is late spring and early summer: warm evenings, the city spread out below, the wine grown on the hill behind you. Pfingsten weekend is peak — if you go then, arrive early.
