Wieninger's Buschenschank sits on the Nussberg with a proper vineyard terrace — the vines you're drinking from grow directly below. The Wieninger family has been making wine on the Nussberg since the 1970s and is one of the most respected names in Viennese wine. This is not a tourist Heuriger. It's a working vineyard that happens to have the best view in Vienna.

The View

The terrace is angled so that on a clear day the horizon looks like a sea. The whole city spreads out below — the Stephansdom, the Danube, the districts stacking back toward the hills. You're sitting on a vineyard terrace 500 metres above the city floor, drinking wine made from the vines directly behind you.

The Wine

Wieninger produces Gemischter Satz and other Viennese varieties. The wine list is short and the prices are Heuriger prices: €5–6 a glass. The food is what you'd expect — bread, cheese, cold cuts, sometimes a warm dish. The point is the wine and the view. Everything else is architecture.

When to Go

The Buschenschank opens from April 2026: Friday and Saturday from midday, Sundays and holidays from 11. The schedule expands to more days as summer progresses — check wieninger-am-nussberg.at for the current opening days. Reservation recommended, especially on weekends and clear-sky days when the Meeresterrasse is at its best.
