Café Kandl sits on a quiet corner of Kandlgasse in Neubau, and from the street it doesn't announce itself. The entrance is understated, almost invisible. Inside, the space is contemporary and carefully designed — nothing fussy, nothing trying too hard. The real draw is the courtyard at the back, a rare Vienna find: a large, light-filled outdoor area with the kind of quiet that makes you want to stay longer than you planned.
Morning and Afternoon
During the day, it's a proper coffeehouse. The coffee is excellent — the kind you notice. Breakfast and lunch are available, and the food is smart without being precious. It's the kind of place where you can sit for three hours with a book and no one will rush you. The courtyard in summer is particularly good for this.
Evening
From 6 PM onward, the bar takes over. The wine list is curated by the team from their personal favourites — not a generic wine bar list. Cocktails are made with care. The food shifts to bar snacks and small plates, the kind that pair well with a drink. The atmosphere stays relaxed; it's not trying to be a scene.
The Design
The interior carries weight. Robin Peller created a space that feels intentional — the materials, the light, the way the room breathes. It's the kind of design that doesn't announce itself but makes you feel better for being in it.

Sussitz marks a decade at the Karmelitermarkt with a producer-focused celebration: 20+ winemakers and food artisans from across Austria pour their own bottles and tell their stories. The Karmeliterviertel's open-air farmers' market runs Fridays and Saturdays year-round on Karmeliterplatz in the 2nd district. Once quiet, the neighbourhood has transformed around it—galleries, studios, and restaurants now fill the streets, but the market itself remains anchored in the practical: locals buying vegetables, not tourists buying vegetables for photos. The dining scene has grown without losing the neighbourhood feel. Come early if you want a seat at one of the surrounding cafés; stay for lunch if you find yourself lingering. Vienna's oldest Baroque park, opened to the public in 1775 by Joseph II. Tree-lined avenues and meadows stay open year-round. In autumn, light filters through the chestnuts at an angle that makes everything look like a film still.
