Furore sits on Neustiftgasse as a deliberate refusal of scale. One table. A glowing sign. A menu that holds two completely different times of day in the same space.
Yusuf Shaker's concept is straightforward: open at 9am with coffee and pistachio croissants, close the morning service, then reopen for evening drinks and focaccia. The natural wines are Italian. The cocktails — Negroni Sbagliato, Espresso Martini — are made without fuss. Hip-hop plays in the background. The space doesn't try to be anything other than what it is.
Why Now
Neubau already has bars. What it didn't have was a place this small that didn't apologize for being small. The neighbourhood has the energy for maximalist venues — full-service restaurants, wine bars with long lists, cocktail lounges that perform. Furore is the opposite: a single room where morning becomes evening, coffee becomes wine, and nobody needs to explain themselves to anyone else.
In the margin
The name means uproar in Italian. The concept is the opposite.
The architecture of the place is its own statement. One table means you're either alone or you're talking to whoever else is there. No scrolling through your phone while waiting for a friend. No performing for an invisible audience. Just the space, the person next to you, and whatever you're drinking.

A multimedia exhibition on queer forms of remembrance, death, and transience at Queer Museum Vienna. The show explores how traditional mourning rituals often fail to reflect queer lived realities — how death can mean erasure or reinterpretation, how queer people are separated from chosen families and social contexts. Artists present mourning as collective experience and envision queer alternatives to funerals and burial sites. The work spans installation, video, performance, and film, with pieces on lesbian vampires, drag queens as undertakers, and the remembrance of destroyed autonomous spaces. Curated by barbara stöhr.
