Moriz closed in late 2024 — a casualty of the difficult Vienna hospitality market. The team behind it didn't stay gone. They've reopened at the same address on Äußere Mariahilfer Straße, in the 15th near Schwendermarkt, with the same commitment: 100% plant-based, entirely organic, regional sourcing. No compromise.
The menu is straightforward and honest. Croissants, cakes, pastries — the kind of baking that doesn't need to announce itself. A proper breakfast spread if you want to sit. The 15th is the right neighborhood for this. It's one of Vienna's genuinely multicultural districts, not a tourist zone. The pace is its own, the people are real, the Beisln don't smile at you but they remember what you ordered.
Why It Matters
Small independent food places in Vienna are fragile. When one goes under, it usually stays under. The fact that Moriz came back — same team, same standards, same location — is worth noticing. It says something about what the team believed in, and what the neighborhood believed in them.

Sussitz marks a decade at the Karmelitermarkt with a producer-focused celebration: 20+ winemakers and food artisans from across Austria pour their own bottles and tell their stories. Guest of honor is Vittorio Gianni Capovilla, one of Italy's most respected distillers—a figure revered in the field for revolutionizing fruit distillation through water-bath methods that preserve delicate aromas. This is the kind of event where you actually talk to the people making the wine, no velvet rope, no gatekeeping. The afternoon runs 15–21h on October 10 in the 2nd district.

Her sculptures and installations occupy Kulturdrogerie's basement space in the 18th, where the architecture itself becomes part of the work. The gallery opens Thursday, October 1 at 6pm. A multimedia exhibition on queer forms of remembrance, death, and transience at Queer Museum Vienna. The show explores how traditional mourning rituals often fail to reflect queer lived realities — how death can mean erasure or reinterpretation, how queer people are separated from chosen families and social contexts. Artists present mourning as collective experience and envision queer alternatives to funerals and burial sites. The work spans installation, video, performance, and film, with pieces on lesbian vampires, drag queens as undertakers, and the remembrance of destroyed autonomous spaces. Curated by barbara stöhr.
