After two years without a café, the Austrian Film Museum on Augustinerstraße has reopened its bar as Piccolina Filmbar. The concept is Italian aperitivo — specialty coffees, cornetti, tramezzini, prosciutto, parmigiano. Everything you'd order at a proper Italian bar, served with the kind of attention that suggests the operator actually cares about the thing.
Manfred Stallmajer runs it. He's also behind the Brasserie at The Guesthouse hotel next door — a place that understands what a hotel restaurant should be: good enough that locals eat there without the hotel guest guilt. That track record matters.
The Schanigarten
The outdoor seating area opened in June 2026 on Augustinerstraße. It's the kind of detail that changes how you move through the city. You can sit outside on a street that has real texture — not a tourist drag, not a hidden corner, just a working Viennese street — and you have time before a screening, or you're unwinding after one. The bar runs daily 10:00–midnight.

The Austrian Film Museum is one of the world's most important film archives. The cinema programmes with genuine curatorial intelligence — not blockbuster scheduling, not algorithm-friendly, just intelligent choices about what's worth seeing and when. A café that lets you sit outside before or after a screening is a specific kind of Vienna pleasure. It's the difference between a venue and a place you actually want to spend time.
The project was backed by JP Immobilien (Daniel Jelitzka and Reza Akhavan), which suggests someone understood what the space needed and had the patience to get it right.

The Karmeliterviertel's open-air farmers' market runs Fridays and Saturdays year-round on Karmeliterplatz in the 2nd district. Once quiet, the neighbourhood has transformed around it—galleries, studios, and restaurants now fill the streets, but the market itself remains anchored in the practical: locals buying vegetables, not tourists buying vegetables for photos.
