Vinifero opened in 2014 with a simple proposition: sell natural and biodynamic wines without the gatekeeping. The bar sits on Karmeliterplatz, a corner of the 2nd district that has its own quiet rhythm — close enough to Karmelitermarkt for the neighbourhood's energy, far enough removed to feel like a genuine local space rather than a destination.
Biodynamic farming goes beyond organic. It bans pesticides but also introduces methods that build soil fertility and plant resilience — treating the vineyard as a living ecosystem rather than a production line. The result is wine that carries the specific character of where it comes from, unfiltered by heavy-handed winemaking.
The bar itself is small. There's no velvet rope, no sommelier performance, no wine list designed to intimidate. The owners pour wine they actually believe in and will talk about it if you ask, but they won't perform about it. That restraint is rare enough to notice. You can sit at the bar or at one of a handful of tables, order a glass from €6 upward, and stay as long as the conversation lasts.
Weekly Tastings
Every Thursday at 17:00, Vinifero runs a structured tasting. It's not a masterclass — it's an invitation to taste several wines together, usually with a loose theme. The format gives you permission to pay attention without needing to already know what you're doing. €15 per person, and you get a 10% discount on anything you want to buy afterward.
They also run occasional Wine & Dine events and pop-up food collaborations, posted on their social channels.
The Shop
If you find something you like, there's a separate shop at Otto-Bauer-Gasse 16 in the 6th where you can buy bottles to take home. Online ordering with in-store pickup is available too.
Karmeliterplatz itself is worth the walk. It's the kind of Viennese corner that doesn't announce itself — a small square with a church, some trees, a few cafés. Vinifero fits the neighbourhood's texture: understated, genuine, not trying to be anything other than what it is.

- 10 October 2026
- Where
- 2nd · Leopoldstadt
Sussitz marks a decade at the Karmelitermarkt with a producer-focused celebration: 20+ winemakers and food artisans from across Austria pour their own bottles and tell their stories. Guest of honor is Vittorio Gianni Capovilla, one of Italy's most respected distillers—a figure revered in the field for revolutionizing fruit distillation through water-bath methods that preserve delicate aromas. This is the kind of event where you actually talk to the people making the wine, no velvet rope, no gatekeeping. The afternoon runs 15–21h on October 10 in the 2nd district.

A multimedia exhibition on queer forms of remembrance, death, and transience at Queer Museum Vienna. The show explores how traditional mourning rituals often fail to reflect queer lived realities — how death can mean erasure or reinterpretation, how queer people are separated from chosen families and social contexts. Artists present mourning as collective experience and envision queer alternatives to funerals and burial sites. The work spans installation, video, performance, and film, with pieces on lesbian vampires, drag queens as undertakers, and the remembrance of destroyed autonomous spaces. Curated by barbara stöhr. Thu–Sun 2–6pm. Free entry.
