Natalia Samsonova has been building a practice around painting and mixed media in Vienna. This group exhibition, shared with René Schädler and Oliver Staeuber, opens with a Vernissage on July 11 and runs until late September. The summer timing and gallery location on Karlsplatz make this a natural stop if you're moving through the district.
The Vernissage itself — 15:00–16:30 — is the traditional opening, usually with Gemischter Satz and the artists in the room. If you go, you'll get a sense of what they're working on and who else is paying attention.

Channatip Chanvipava is a self-taught Thai painter born in Bangkok in 1993, now based in London. His first Vienna solo show opens at BEK Forum in the 4th — a genuine production platform for experimental art, not a commercial gallery, tucked in a courtyard space you have to know to find. The paintings are autobiographical, layering personal memory with cross-cultural and intergenerational dialogue. What happens when the language of family and the language of the country you live in don't share a vocabulary. He's asking the question through paint. The show runs until July 25. Popfest Wien returns to Karlsplatz for its 17th edition, July 23–26. Free entry across multiple indoor and outdoor stages — the Wien Museum, Technische Universität, and the Karlskirche all participate. This year's curators are Sofie Royer, an Austrian-Iranian musician and Stones Throw Records alumni who's supported Lana Del Rey and Air, and Wolfgang Lehmann, producer for Voodoo Jürgens and CULK. The curatorial duo format is what makes Popfest consistently interesting: each year is genuinely different because the people choosing the lineup are artists, not programmers. The 2026 lineup is still being announced, but with Royer and Lehmann, expect something at the intersection of synth-pop, experimental, and Austrian indie. The festival has a reputation for finding artists before they're obvious, and for programming that doesn't feel designed by algorithm. You can actually discover something. Karlsplatz is the 1st district, easy to reach, and the free-entry model means you can drift between stages without committing to a full day. If you're looking for something to actually listen to — not just be around — this is worth your time.

Ei Arakawa-Nash works across performance, painting, and installation with a strong collaborative and bodily dimension. This show at Meyer*Kainer — one of Vienna's most serious commercial galleries — presents an LED installation extending Arakawa-Nash's experiments with performative electronic paintings. The gallery is understated, the work is genuinely interesting, and it's been running quietly since May. Meyer*Kainer is in the 1st, near the Naschmarkt end. Through July 31.
