Bar Louu on Zieglergasse in the 7th is the kind of place that makes you want to stay longer than you planned. The cocktails are precise, the wooden furniture is genuinely beautiful, and the whole space has the feeling of a place that knows what it's doing. It's not trying to be anything other than what it is.
Water Louu takes that same sensibility and moves it to the Donaukanal for summer. Same cocktails, same attention to detail, same wooden chairs — but now you're sitting by the water, in the open air, with deckchairs and a garden. The Taste!Garden location on Obere Donaustraße is one of the busiest spots on the canal strip in the 2nd, and Water Louu fits into that texture naturally. It's not a tourist trap or an Instagram moment. It's just what it says: the same bar, by the water.
The Donaukanal Summer
The 2nd district's Donaukanal strip is one of Vienna's most active summer areas. It's the kind of place where the pace genuinely slows — people stay longer, conversations drift, the evening stretches. Water Louu works because it doesn't fight that. The serious cocktail program is still there, the snacks are still good, but the whole energy is different when you're sitting by the water instead of at a bar counter.
If you've been to Bar Louu and wondered what it would be like by the canal, you don't have to wonder anymore. If you haven't, this is a good place to start — the location is the point, but the drinks are the reason you'll come back.

Markterei Stadtheuriger — July program, Thu/Fri through July 31
- When
- 1 July 2026 – 31 July 2026
- Where
- 9th · Alsergrund
The Markterei Stadtheuriger runs every Thursday and Friday through the end of July, 16:00–22:00, in the converted market hall on Severingasse 7 in the 9th. Each week brings a different winemaker pouring directly from the producer—no middleman, no markup. The setup is the point: a covered market hall that stays open rain or shine, rotating Streetfood specials, the Heuriger tradition stripped of the vineyard setting and planted in the city instead. You arrive at the end of the working day. The neighbourhood is there. Wine comes in glasses, not performances. It's the format at its best—summer evenings, open bottles, the producer in the room explaining what they've made. The Markterei itself is one of Vienna's better event spaces: a real former market building, not a retrofitted warehouse, with the bones of its original purpose still visible. The courtyard fills easily, the covered sections keep the weather out, and the whole thing moves at the pace of a Heuriger—slow, indifferent to urgency, exactly the rhythm you want on a Thursday night. Free entry. Wine by the glass. The food changes weekly. This is peak season for the format. July is when the Stadtheuriger earns its place in the calendar. Go early if you want to sit. Go late if you want to move.

- When
- 10 June 2026 – 31 July 2026
- Where
- 14th · Penzing
Casa [Senza] Alberi — A Treehouse with[out] Trees, A Bird's Nest with[out] Birds — opens at Pavillon 21 on the Otto Wagner Areal on June 10. Rainer Prohaska, FUTURAMA°LAB, and Kollektiv Kaorle have built a walkable installation from reused materials: fantastical structures between treehouse, bird's nest, and architectural sculpture that invite you to climb, sit, and move through them. The work explores communal living, building, and how we appropriate and inhabit space — questions that feel urgent when the city itself is changing. The Otto Wagner Areal is the right setting. The complex — a former psychiatric hospital designed by Otto Wagner in 1907 — remains one of Vienna's most extraordinary places: a sprawl of pavilions and gardens in the 14th that feels apart from the city's rhythm. Free entry to the park. The installation runs through July 31.

- When
- 5 August 2026
- Where
- 7th · Neubau
The Architekturzentrum Wien's open-air film festival returns in August with the theme 'Demokratie Bauen' — exploring how architecture shapes democracy and how cities can plan more justly. The courtyard of the AzW, tucked inside the MuseumsQuartier complex, is one of Vienna's better-kept outdoor screening spots: intimate, not crowded, the light fading into the evening while you're still seated. Two nights: August 5 at 20:30 (An den Grenzen der Demokratie) and August 12. Free admission. This is the kind of event that reads dry on paper and turns out to be the best evening of the month — the sort where you arrive thinking you'll stay for the film and leave at midnight still talking about what you saw.
