Sophie, Kathi, and Maxi Wieninger are the third generation of one of Vienna's most respected wine families. Their parents built the reputation; they inherited the vineyard and the pressure to keep it alive. But instead of just continuing what came before, they decided to do something new with it — and that's where Wieninger.next comes in.
This August 23, they're opening a pop-up Heuriger in the Stammersdorf vineyards. One day only. Noon to 10 p.m., at Krottenhofgasse 155 in the 21st. It's the kind of thing that happens when someone in their twenties has access to a vineyard and decides to actually use it.
What You're Drinking
The wine list is theirs: SoMa (a white), KaSoMa (another white), and SoSé (a rosé). These are not the family's flagship wines — they're the Wieninger.next project, the label the siblings created to do something different. The wines are lighter, more approachable, made for afternoons under vines rather than formal dinners. If wine isn't your thing, there's fruit juice from the garden.
The food is Wiener Heurigenküche — the real version, not the tourist version. Oma Barbara (the family's mother) is cooking, and she's bringing her Erdapfelsalat, schnitzel, and a selection of small things that belong on a table outdoors. They've mentioned vegetarian and vegan options, which is how you know they're thinking about who actually shows up, not just who they imagine should show up.
Why Stammersdorf
The 21st is Vienna's wine district. Most people think of the Danube valley or the hills south of the city, but Stammersdorf — a grätzl of vineyards and low houses in the city's northeast — has been growing wine for centuries. It's quieter than the tourist Heurigen in the 19th, less crowded, the kind of place where you can actually taste the wine and hear the person across the table.
The Wieninger vineyard sits in the middle of it. On a normal day, it's just vines. On August 23, it's a table.
The Practical Thing
This is a one-day event. It's not recurring. It's not a permanent pop-up. August 23, that's it. You need to reserve — they're not taking walk-ins. Heuriger prices. You're sitting in a vineyard drinking wine made by people who live there. The math is simple.

The 17th urbanize! festival transforms Vienna's streets into the main subject of inquiry. Oct 13–18 across multiple neighborhoods: talks, workshops, city walks, films, and artistic interventions exploring climate adaptation, mobility, social justice, and public space. The Sophienpark opens to the public on June 12 — the courtyard garden of the former Sophienspital on Apollogasse in the 7th. The Sophienspital was Vienna's main women's hospital for over a century; the complex has been slowly repurposed since its closure. The park is free and accessible on its own, though it pairs with the sophie7 restaurant in the Kenyonpavillon if you want to eat. A historic hospital garden that has been closed to the public for decades, now open. The kind of discovery that only works in Vienna, where history is always just behind a door. Wieninger's Buschenschank sits on the Nussberg with a proper vineyard terrace behind it — the vines you're drinking from grow directly below. The view is called the Meeresterrasse because on a clear day it looks like a sea horizon, the whole city laid out in one angle. This is not a tourist Heuriger. It's a working vineyard that happens to have the best view in Vienna. The Wieninger family has been making wine on the Nussberg since the 1970s and is one of the most respected names in Viennese wine. The Buschenschank opens from April 2026: Friday and Saturday from midday, Sundays and holidays from 11 (expanding to more days as summer progresses — check wieninger-am-nussberg.at for the current schedule). Wine runs €5–6 a glass. Reservation recommended, especially on weekends. The angle is simple: you sit on a vineyard terrace with a view over the whole city and drink wine made from the vines directly behind you. The Meeresterrasse is the reason to go. Everything else follows.
