Sophie, Kathi, and Maxi Wieninger are the third generation of one of Vienna's most respected wine families. Their parents built the reputation; they inherited the vineyard and the pressure to keep it alive. But instead of just continuing what came before, they decided to do something new with it — and that's where Wieninger.next comes in.

This August 23, they're opening a pop-up Heuriger in the Stammersdorf vineyards. One day only. Noon to 10 p.m., at Krottenhofgasse 155 in the 21st. It's the kind of thing that happens when someone in their twenties has access to a vineyard and decides to actually use it.

What You're Drinking

The wine list is theirs: SoMa (a white), KaSoMa (another white), and SoSé (a rosé). These are not the family's flagship wines — they're the Wieninger.next project, the label the siblings created to do something different. The wines are lighter, more approachable, made for afternoons under vines rather than formal dinners. If wine isn't your thing, there's fruit juice from the garden.

The food is Wiener Heurigenküche — the real version, not the tourist version. Oma Barbara (the family's mother) is cooking, and she's bringing her Erdapfelsalat, schnitzel, and a selection of small things that belong on a table outdoors. They've mentioned vegetarian and vegan options, which is how you know they're thinking about who actually shows up, not just who they imagine should show up.

Why Stammersdorf

The 21st is Vienna's wine district. Most people think of the Danube valley or the hills south of the city, but Stammersdorf — a grätzl of vineyards and low houses in the city's northeast — has been growing wine for centuries. It's quieter than the tourist Heurigen in the 19th, less crowded, the kind of place where you can actually taste the wine and hear the person across the table.

The Wieninger vineyard sits in the middle of it. On a normal day, it's just vines. On August 23, it's a table.

The Practical Thing

This is a one-day event. It's not recurring. It's not a permanent pop-up. August 23, that's it. You need to reserve — they're not taking walk-ins.
